How to do CPR the correct way to save a life??

Knowing CPR is one of the most valuable things a person can learn in this day and age. I recently received my certification in CPR and it was taught to me by someone who has been saving lives since 1969.

Here is the way that I was trained and if you follow the directions closely and practice, you might save another life someday!

Step 1

This type of CPR can be done for Children and Adults one years or older. It was taught by someone who has saved thousands of lives.

Step 2

Two Breaths Rule...

When you find someone who appears to be laying unconscious, the first thing that you want to do is stop and take two breaths for yourself. Why? Because you want to relax and access the situation. Look around quickly to find out if there are any dangers in the vicinity, like down power lines, something you could possibly trip on etc..

Step 3

Check for Possible Dangers during Two Breaths..

If the person is lying in the way of traffic and you are afraid they will get hurt, make sure that if you are in a vehicle to park at a slant to protect the person. Make sure that the vehicles wheels are turned away from the person so that if hit by someone else, the vehicle will not roll into you or the victim.
Step 4

After you take two breaths and have accessed the situation, approach the victim and crouch behind the person's head, away from their arms or hands and tap the person on the shoulder with the back of your hand about five times, asking them if they are okay. Doing it this way will keep you safe and free from harms way as well. You don't know if this person has a gun or another weapon. Also if they have been unknowingly electrocuted, then by tapping them with the back of your hand, you will have less of a chance of getting shocked.

Step 5

Clear Airway

After you've found the victim to be unconscious, you will need to crouch next to them and clear their airway passages. To do this check to see if they are lying on their back and if so grab them gently by the chin and pull it up slightly. By doing this alone you may save someone's life because it could clear the air passages by just doing this. Then check their chest to see if they are breathing. If not start CPR (step 6)If they are on their stomach instead and appear to not be breathing, turn them onto their side and lift their head so that their neck is straight. Most of the time if you just straighten their head to a side position and lift it so that it is inline with the neck, they will start to breath. That should clear their airways. If not start CPR.

Step 6

Someone is slumped over?

If someone is in a sitting position and slumped over, lift their chin up and listen for breathing. By just doing this alone you might open up their airway passages and save a life. This works!

Step 7

Begin CPR- 2/30 Rule

Begin CPR and breath 2 times into their mouth, pinch nose-

If you have found that they are still not breathing, then you will need to start helping them to breath by doing CPR. If they are one years old or older, you can do the 2/30. Pinch their nose, breath into their mouth twice and stop, then layer two of your hands on their chest between their nipples.

Step 8

Begin CPR- 30 Compressions (2/30 Rule)

Begin pushing about halfway down and count thirty compressions (2 breathes and 30 compressions= 2/30). Then check for breathing and repeat if they still haven't begun to breath on their own. Keep doing this until an ambulance arrives or they are breathing.

Step 9

Coughing up blood or fluid?

If they have water or blood in their mouth, tilt their head to the side and SWEEP their mouths with your fingers to get rid of the stuff that they might choke on. Then put head back to original position and repeat CPR.

Step 10

If you can't tell whether or not they are breathing, you can still perform the compressions, it will not hurt them. Just remember to press between their nipples and not too low.

Tips & Warnings
  • The 2/30 can be done for anyone one year or older. It is easier to remember and will save a life.
  • If someone is unconscious and not breathing on their stomach or slumped over, it is always better to try and do CPR instead of leaving them be. Many people have died because onlookers have thought it was better to not touch someone who has been seriously injured. You have to try open up their air passages.
  • Never do nothing when you find someone unconscious and not breathing. If you can at least try and clear their airway passages by lifting up their chin, that alone will save their lives. It usually takes the paramedic five to ten minutes to arrive and that can be the difference between life and death. Our instructor indicated that he'd seen more people die because nobody did anything time and time again when they could have just attempted to clear the airway passages.

p/s : Di malaysia, tak ramai orang yang tahu skill CPR selain paramedic, ahli kesihatan dan doktor tapi di negara luar ,most peoples know how to do it tak kira orang kesihatan atau tak. That's why sy rasa sy or mana2 golongan dalam bidang kesihatan perlu share kan teknik ni kepada semua rakyat malaysia kerana teknik ni sangat penting dalam menyelamatkan orang yang tidak sedarkan diri dalam masa kecemasan. Menurut kajian , bantuan CPR pada 5 minit pertama boleh meningkatkan peluang mangsa kecemasan untuk hidup sebanyak 90% .Tapi perlu diingat, CPR buat pada org yg tak sedarkan diri yang tiada tanda-tanda pernafasan n denyutan nadi jela..bukan orang sedar..takut jadi lain plak..he..
